Trump's Endorsement Just Cost Graham 14 Points: SC Senate Race Flips on New Poll
An Emerson College poll shows Ralph Norman leading Darline Graham for the first time — and 53% of SC GOP voters say the Trump endorsement doesn't change their vote.

Market Snapshot
Cross-platform consensus: Graham 58¢, Norman 39¢ — $3.4 million in volume across Kalshi and Polymarket.
For weeks, the South Carolina Republican Senate Special Primary looked like a one-horse race. Darline Graham — backed personally by President Trump — held a double-digit market lead, sitting at 72 cents as recently as this morning's session. Then a new poll landed.
An Emerson College/Nexstar survey released July 30 showed Ralph Norman leading the field for the first time: Norman 22%, Graham 19%, Fry 12%, Sanford 11%, with 25% of voters still undecided. The market responded immediately — dropping Graham 14 cents to 58¢ and pushing Norman up to 39¢, the closest the race has been priced since Graham entered.
The number that stands out most isn't the horse-race topline. It's this: 53% of South Carolina Republican primary voters say Trump's endorsement has no impact on their vote.
In a compressed special primary with low turnout, limited name recognition, and a field that remains genuinely undecided at the top, that figure matters. The endorsement was supposed to be Graham's decisive structural advantage in a crowded nine-candidate field. The first post-filing-deadline survey suggests it is not functioning as a closing argument — at least not on its own.
Why Norman Has Structural Upside
The Emerson survey offers more than a topline. Norman leads the full field in favorability ratings and holds the strongest second-choice position heading into what is widely expected to be an August 25 runoff. With nine certified candidates on the ballot and no one likely to clear 50%, the runoff is the probable decisive contest — not the August 11 primary.
In that scenario, second-choice support and overall favorability become the key variables. Norman has been consolidating backing from a coalition of Trump's own Senate allies — including Tim Scott, Mike Lee, Jim DeMint, Nancy Mace, and Turning Point USA — who have explicitly supported him over the president's endorsed candidate. He has shown particular strength among under-50 voters and in the Upstate region.
Graham's base is more concentrated: older voters and those who respond most directly to the Trump endorsement cue. That's a real floor — but a narrower one than the 72-cent price had implied.
Tonight's Debate Changes Everything
The first major persuasion window arrives tonight: a televised debate at 7 p.m. ET on Fox Carolina and Gray Media's statewide network, co-sponsored by the South Carolina Republican Party. With early voting beginning August 5 — the day after the August 4 primary night elsewhere on the calendar — tonight is the last major free-media moment before voters start casting ballots.
For Graham, the task is making the endorsement narrative tangible: turning a presidential imprimatur into a reason for a low-information primary voter to choose her over a field of similarly credentialed Republicans. For Norman, it's about converting his favorable polling into name recognition among the 25% of voters who are still undecided.
What the Market Is Pricing Now
At 58¢ for Graham and 39¢ for Norman — with a combined $3.4 million in cross-platform volume — the market has repriced significantly but hasn't settled into a clear favorite. The two candidates together account for 97 cents of the probability mass; the remaining field is a rounding error.
The 19-cent spread between them is wide enough to make Graham the lean, but narrow enough that a strong Norman debate performance or a post-debate news cycle could close it. With 25% of surveyed voters undecided and early voting starting in five days, the market is effectively in real-time price discovery mode.
